The cutting and shaping of the chocolate cake was the hardest part, due to the tricky nature of chocolate. Regulating the temperature is often difficult; I was fortunate to have a few cool days to work in.
I built a platform to raise the cake enough to allow for the wheels, creating the illusion that the cake was supported by them. It was very lucky that Elaine and Eytan had a little model VW camper van which I was able to borrow to calculate the size of the cake. The stencils I created a few weeks earlier fitted perfectly. Of course it is always easier to copy a model than a picture, no matter the size! I am always amazed at how time consuming and fiddly novelty wedding cakes are - the VW camper van wedding cake was certainly one of them.
